A Look at FERC’s Proposed PURPA Fixes [GTM Squared]

The Public Utilities Regulatory Policies Act (PURPA) is responsible for about 15 percent of the 40 gigawatts of utility-scale solar now installed in the United States. 

Despite its success, energy wonks have long called for a revamp of the 1978 law. Early this month the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission took a step in that direction — filing a notice of proposed rulemaking in the Federal Register that proposes significant changes in PURPA’s implementation.
