Dutch energy provider Essent has agreed to take over EnergieWonen Groep and ZON7, two Netherlands-based companies specializing in the supply and installation of rooftop PV, thus enhancing Essent’s sustainable development network.
Netherlands-based gas, electricity, heat and energy services provider Essent has agreed to acquire the Dutch rooftop solar specialists EnergieWonen Groep and ZON7 for an undisclosed sum.
In a press release, Essent – a subsidiary of German renewable energy company Innogy SE, which is itself part of energy giant RWE – said the transaction will help the company strengthen its position as market leader in solar panels for the consumer market, a segment it says is “growing explosively”.
The two companies will add to Essent’s network, which currently specializes in insulation, heating installations, solar panels, heat pumps, apps and consultancy services. The group includes Klimaatroute, CVtotaal.nl, Kemkens, Volta Solar and Volta Limburg, Geas Energiewacht, Energiewacht, Energiewacht Groep, Isoprofs and Nederland Isoleert.
EnergieWonen Groep operates through the business units EnergieWonen – based in Almere and providing PV systems; and EnergieWonen InstallatieService, an Ede-based installer. PV system supplier ZON7 is based in Lelystad.
“In four years, EnergieWonen and ZON7 quadrupled their monthly sales of solar panels,” Essent said in its statement.
The company is also active in electromobility. In November, it signed an agreement with Xximo Mobility to start offering a one-stop-shop for charging electric cars. At the time, it said Innogy had installed 24,000 charging points in 20 countries, and that Belgium and the Netherlands were new target markets.
Essent, which operates across the Benelux energy market, was acquired by German company RWE in 2009.
